Welcome to the Rocky Mountain Sled
Dog Club
We love dogs. Dogs love running. We love Sledding with our dogs. It's a great
fit.
Sledding or Skiing with your dog is one of the most enjoyable activities you
can do with your four legged friends.
The Rocky Mountain Sled Dog Club (RMSDC) promotes the art and joy of Dog
Mushing through racing events and camaraderie. Our races are Sprint Races
which means they are usually four to fifteen miles in length. There are two
participation levels, one for seasoned mushers and one for newer recreational
mushers. We also have youth races for those under 14 years old. Race events
have both Sledding and Skijoring classes. Sledding uses 4, 6, 8 or more dogs
and run a length equal to the number of dogs used. For instance 4 dog teams
run 4 miles and 8 dog teams run 8 miles. Skijorers usually race for 4 miles
with one dog and 6 miles when using 2 dogs.
People often ask us what kind of dogs do you need? Over the years we have seen
traditional Siberian Huskies, Hounds, Pointers, Poodles, Rottweilers, Boxers
and other various 30-70 pound dogs used. Any dog that likes to pull and run
can be used.
So how do you get started? Check out our website rmsdc.org for the race
schedule, come to an event and talk to the Mushers. We have members with over
25 years of experience who love to talk about their dogs and helping
beginners.
Come play in the snow with us!
